True Confessions: My Journey into Real Estate

In today’s True Confessions with Your Trusted Real Estate Professionals, I want to share something a little more personal — the story of how I got started in real estate.

I grew up in a family where hard work and craftsmanship were part of daily life. My dad was a general contractor — the kind who didn’t just build houses, but entire neighborhoods. He built the home I grew up in, and from an early age, I was right there beside him, hammer in hand. We built our barn together, and he taught me something that’s stayed with me ever since: if you can learn it, you should learn it.

That philosophy shaped everything about who I am today. As a kid, I learned to install roofs, use a power saw, and lay tile — hands-on lessons that gave me a deep respect for the building process and the people behind it.

Years later, my husband and I bought our first home in Detroit — a foreclosure that needed a complete overhaul. We gutted it, moved electrical and plumbing, and even relocated the kitchen. That project didn’t just teach us how to renovate a home — it taught us what it means to build something from the ground up, together.

When we moved back to Denver, we made a huge profit on our "flipped foreclosure", bought our next home, and turned it into an Airbnb, diving into the short-term rental world. Those experiences opened our eyes to the power of real estate as a wealth-building tool.

Then one day, my husband asked, “Have you ever thought about getting your real estate license?” At the time, I was a personal trainer — a career I loved and had built over eight years. But something about that question just felt right. So, on a bit of a whim, I got licensed… and never looked back.

Today, real estate isn’t just my profession — it’s my passion. We’ve grown our own rental portfolio, experienced both short-term and long-term investing, tackled flips and rehabs, and learned firsthand how real estate can change lives.

What I love most about this work is that I don’t just advise my clients from a place of theory — I speak from experience. I’ve lived it, built it, and invested in it. And I’ve seen the incredible freedom, opportunity, and hope that real estate creates.

That’s why I love helping others do the same — building home for today, and hope for tomorrow.
